Principal's Message

Meet MS. Bigelow

Meet MS. Bigelow

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year at Tafoya! I am honored to continue serving as principal of this wonderful school, where students, families, and staff come together to create a thriving learning community.

I began my journey in K-12 education eighteen years ago as a high school English teacher. During that time, I was recognized as Teacher of the Year and later took on leadership roles as English Department Chair and WASC Coordinator at Woodland High School. I also served as Assistant Principal at Pioneer High School, experiences that deepened my commitment to building safe, supportive, and equitable schools.

For more than two decades, I have called Woodland home. Both of my children attended WJUSD schools, where they flourished academically, socially, and emotionally. That personal experience inspires me every day to ensure that all students at Tafoya—and throughout our district—have access to the same opportunities to grow, succeed, and discover their potential.

At Tafoya, we believe that a school is more than a place where learning happens. It is the heart of the neighborhood, where relationships are nurtured and futures are built. Over the past several years, our school community has worked together to strengthen academic achievement, expand opportunities in the arts and student leadership, and build a culture where every child feels connected and supported. We have also made literacy a central part of who we are through reading challenges, student book clubs, and a shared commitment to helping students develop a lifelong love of reading.

I am excited to partner with families and community members as we continue this work. Your support, involvement, and partnership make all the difference. Together, we will ensure that every student is challenged, supported, and inspired to SOAR.

I look forward to another outstanding year at Tafoya Elementary.
